The Wreck Cove General Store is located on the Cabot Trail at Wreck Cove and is the only available rest stop with gas and other convenience items between Baddeck and Ingonish. Founded in 1976, the store is now owned and operated by Brent Partland and Jenn Rhodes. Transplanted from Ontario in 2014, Brent and Jenn became the new faces of the store in 2014. Their community is like family and their coffee table is a gathering place for locals sharing stories, visiting groups, snowmobile enthusiasts, and to warm up or cool down from the outdoors. No matter what time of year you visit us, you can be sure to find something you like, or someone to meet. Open year-round, Christmas and New Years day are the only dates the store officially closes.

What We Offer

We offer grocery basics and necessities for the camper and traveler, fuel, fresh coffee and local information. We also stock a nice selection of books by local authors published by Cape Breton Books, beautiful postcards, and a selection of crafts and collectibles. Our seasonal offerings include hunting permits, fishing licenses, ice cream. In summer, we feature our famous fresh lobster sandwich, tasty crab sandwiches and even have fresh live lobsters. For those unexpected travel emergencies, we offer a pay phone and a popular little washroom (prepare to get in line!)

Wreck Cove General Store staff

One of the people you may meet throughout the year is our longest-standing employee, Lynn. She’s been here as long as the store—in fact, a little longer; our store is built on land that purchased from Lynn’s father, and that used to be part of the family farm. If you come looking for fuel in the high season, you’re likely to get it from John (yes, we’re full serve!), who came here from Ontario enough years ago that he’s managed to recover, finally. If you want to know about the sights around here, ask John.

We spend a lot of time looking for and selecting special inventory that represents the best that Maritime Canada has to offer, and we believe that our store is more than just a place to grab a coffee for the road. We want our customers to spend time getting to know us and our offerings, and we hope that your visit to Cape Breton will be more memorable because you stopped by our store.
