The former Englishtown Ridge Campground will be re-opening in May of this year with a new name, new owners and a new destination experience. Kluskap Ridge RV and Campground is owned and managed by a partnership of three couples with a passion for the outdoors and the full camping experience.
The couples are Rosemarie and Austin Christmas, Darrell and Sharon Bernard and Tim and Amanda Jesty. They currently work in fields such as education, public services, healthcare, business and music (two of the owners are part of the famed group The Sons of Membertou). They say what started as a conversation over a campfire about the lack of quality and spacious RV sites on Cape Breton Island became an ongoing banter of opening their own campground.
The light-hearted conversation continued over months and only became serious when they found an advertisement for the sale of Englishtown Ridge Campground. The partners purchased the campground and began investing their passion and dreams into renovations, updates and new experiences.
The owners will also be bringing aspects of the Aboriginal culture to this unique camping experience by offering tipi accommodations, and cultural crafts and demonstrations.
Owner Rosemarie Christmas says, “We having been working day and night to bring our visitors a world class camping destination with accommodations ranging from upscale vacation rentals to full service RV sites to tipis, rustic cabins and tent sites.
In addition to the accommodations, we are also working hard to create many diverse activities that make it easy for all family members to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Our location, at the entrance of one of the world’s most scenic drives, the beautiful Cabot Trail, also makes Kluskap Ridge a great home base for anyone visiting Cape Breton Island. From there, you can explore the trail and surrounding attractions such as the Artisan Loop, Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.”
